14 July 2016, Kuala Lumpur – Adidas and Parley for the Oceans have created the first tee using Parley Ocean Plastic® fabric. The TERREX Parley Logo Tee follows the first running shoe that adidas and Parley launched in June 2016. It is presented for the first time at the OutDoor fair in Friedrichshafen from July 13 to 16 and will be available in retail as of Spring/Summer 2017.
The TERREX Parley Logo Tee received the OutDoor Industry Award 2016 thanks to its sustainable and innovative approach. The 12-member expert panel is enthusiastic about the greater context of the product: “We like the fact that there is an interesting story behind this T-shirt – Parley for the Oceans and adidas address the pollution of the seas which is a major problem.”
In April 2015, adidas announced a partnership with Parley for the Oceans, an environmental organisation and collaboration network that raises awareness for the beauty and fragility of the oceans and implements comprehensive strategies to end their destruction. With the goal of developing and supporting new technologies to up-cycle ocean plastic debris, adidas and Parley for the Oceans have worked on turning ocean plastic into technical yarn fibres that can be used for performance products. “So much work has happened behind the scenes since we launched our partnership with adidas. We are creating new standards, new materials and technologies that are so different to those the sporting goods industry is used to,” says Cyrill Gutsch, Founder of Parley for the Oceans. “It is an ongoing challenge, but we achieved the first step. Now we can replace new plastic with recycled marine plastic debris: Parley Ocean Plastic®. We can create footwear and apparel products with it and we are ready to scale it up.”
About the TERREX Parley Logo Tee
The TERREX Parley Logo Tee contains Parley Ocean Plastic® fibre and recycled polyester, offering excellent performance qualities for outdoor athletes. Due to its gusset construction under the arm, the tee allows full freedom of movement when climbing, running or biking in the mountains. The hydrophilic finish wicks moisture away from the skin, ensuring great wearing comfort.
