What is the first thing about adidas you could think of? Trend is what I could think of. adidas never fails to mesmerize me by its fashionable, swagger, and trendy collections. Not only the fitness, running but also lifestyle and sneaker enthusiasts greatly adore this noteworthy label.

I have heard about and seen the overwhelming positive feedbacks about adidas UltraBOOST, especially when it comes to road running, long or short distance. Lucky me, adidas Malaysia sent in a pair of adidas UltraBOOST X a month ago. Little did I know that it is designed specifically for women, how amazing!

I decided to take it out for a community run with adidas Runners (AR) Kuala Lumpur. Frankly speaking, I can be demanding and fussy about the running shoes I wear for running. The appropriate running shoes provide the ultimate fit of your foot, hence to reduce the running-related injuries. However, the bad ones could possibly ruin your run.

Immediately after my first try-out, the adidas UltraBOOST X amazed me. Why?

  1. Adaptive Arch, Perfect Fit

First of all, I was fascinated by its design – the upper that floats, disconnected, and above the sole. Initially, I had no idea what to make of this shoe, but its entire facet soon made me eager to try out.

One of the reasons I was amazed by this shoe is its adaptive arch that enables the adidas Primeknit to hug my foot and adapt to my foot strike for a perfect fit and supportive feel on my run. It uses a seamless and stretchy Primeknit upper which adapts and expands to my foot’s natural shape helping to ensure comfort and reduce irritation.

We all know the arch discomfort could be really annoying. UltraBOOST X fits just snugly. No wonder, it is called the UltraBOOST X, because it indeed boosted my run.

2. Incredible Interior

adidas UltraBOOST X has a narrower heel structure, a wider forefoot and floating arch allowing the shoes to provide support specifically for the female foot. I do not exactly have a wide forefoot, however, the shoe is very breathable as its Primeknit upper leaves tiny holes allowing the air to flow in and out of the shoe naturally, and comfortable throughout my run.

Apart from its unique design, I just can’t deny UltraBOOST X is intriguing. After my run, I also wear it for basic strength training, shopping, or simply leisure strolls. Sometimes, I wear it without a sock and actually like how it feels on my foot.

3. Responsive Cushioning

Cushioning is one of the most vital elements in a running shoe. In addition to its responsiveness, the midsole and special curved design play a big role. The curvature of this shoe also contributes by providing different levels of contact with the ground and at each point in the stride. Not forgetting the soft foam of the sole, the surprisingly pleasant touch which soothes my foot.

4. Stretchweb Continental Outsole

Interestingly, the rubber on the outsole of UltraBOOST X is made by Continental (a tire making company). The rubber is a very thin layer with lugs laid out in a grid / web like pattern called Stretchweb. One of the biggest standouts of Continental rubber in the past has been its outstanding traction, therefore, the shoe is solid on pavement in both dry and wet conditions.

5. Midsole, Boost Foam

The midsole of the UltraBOOST X is made entirely from adidas’ boost foam – it a TPU foam which is made by compressing small nuggets into the mold/shape desired. The Torsion System, under the midfoot, gives some midfoot and rearfoot structure. TPU is a great choice for the midsole, as it can absorb impacts while also returning energy effectively. It is between the heel and forefoot that makes for a stable ride, and provides me energy return with each step taken.

Additionally, the dual-density 3D heel counter designed for women’s feet helps increase stability around the heel and allows for optimal movement of the achilles.

P/S: Haven’t I mentioned about its weight? At only 8.4 ounces per shoe, the UltraBOOST X is averagely light. It definitely makes for an all-around, everyday running shoe.
