Let’s agree with this.

ASICS never fails to disappoint runners by offering a wide variety of running shoe models, cushioning systems, and stability features. For runners who run long distances, you should search for a shoe that offers enough cushioning in its fits to support your feet, while also being as lightweight as possible for high performance.

Being an amateur runner who aims at running longer distances, I was grateful to have received a pair of ASICS GEL-Nimbus 21 from ASICS Malaysia. Also, having worn and run in ASICS running shoes several times, I sure knew I was going to round off my runs with this pair of GEL-Nimbus 21.

For the past three months, why has GEL-Nimbus 21 been one of the go-to shoes for my long runs?

The redesigned mesh upper is more adaptable.

Running long distances, the upper of running shoes is as significant as other parts. The GEL-Nimbus 21 uses a new engineered, breathable and stretchable mesh upper with a look that is totally different from the past version. In addition to its reflective details, it also adapts to the natural shape of the foot, and gives the foot breathability, keeping the foot cool and sweat-free. Compared to the Nimbus 20, the GEL-Nimbus 21 not only has a wider forefoot which offers more room, but also a wider toe-box which allows my toes to spread naturally whenever needed.

The shoe features a new outsole design.

The outsole of the GEL-Nimbus 21 is the ASICS High Abrasion Rubber (AHAR) material which is designed for durability on various surfaces. The new lateral full-ground contact outsole encourages a smoother heel-to-toe transition. I have also worn this shoe for trail running and been loving how sturdy and grippy the outsole is.

The shoe features two updated midsole technologies.

The GEL-Nimbus 21 features two updated midsole technology – the FLYTEFOAM Lyte and FLYTEFOAM Propel, which makes a more energetic run, providing high energy and reflected power returns. The new midsole design offers lightweight cushioning with lively forefoot bounce, not forgetting the additional 3mm of height to help relieve Achilles tension.

On top of that, the Rearfoot GEL Cushioning System provides a lower shock when the heel impacts on the ground, as well as the Forefoot Gel Cushioning System reduces shear forces and also helps the foot when pushing forwards. Most importantly, the cushioning system helps to prevent potential injuries.

Last but not least, the GEL-Nimbus 21 features a premium Ortholite X-40 sockliner with higher rebound properties while providing excellent moisture management and a high-level of breathability.

No matter what the distance, it will give a comfortable fit.

Designed for neutral runners who are looking for a soft and plush ride, the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 21 features a wider toe box with the improvement in size, and the premium mesh later on the upper part, giving my feet more room to move. It is one of the important elements during long runs where the foot will experience friction with the inside of the shoe for a long time.

Living up to its reputation, the ASICS GEL technology gives utmost support and helps me feel more comfortable during my runs, especially on uneven asphalt condition. In overall, the shoe holds and wraps my foot securely, and thanks to its soft cushioning and external heel clutching system, it makes for a reliable shoe for long distance runs and training sessions.
