It was the earth tone color of Salomon Speedcross 5 that caught our eyes instantly. We have been absolutely delighted with the performance of the shoe, and without a doubt, it will be one of the shoes to be taken into account for sunny and rainy days on any type of terrains.
The Salomon Speedcross 5 is the ideal shoe for those who like to leave the running tracks and tarmac roads, and run through rough and muddy trails, conquer uphills and downhills. The shoe is designed to satisfy the trail runners. It is a durable, smooth-running traction fiend for any and all trail conditions. Let us tell you why.
Having used it to run trail several times, we have been pleasantly surprised with the comfort and breathability of the shoe, and have no doubt that it can be worn to not only wet, but also rocky and technical terrains, and even the long distances.
As much as we enjoy trail running, sometimes, we cannot get rid of the dirty, muddy, grassy, and wet conditions. With Salomon Speedcross 5, it provides all the elements that make a shoe great from protection and durability. The upper is another remarkable feature that we cherish. The anti-debris mesh that covers the front has substantially improved the comfort, flexibility, and support of the shoe.
In this sense, the upper has been constructed without seams providing us with the sensations from the first moment we wore. So far, we did not suffer any kind of chafing or blisters. Also, the SensiFit provides a snug fit along with the Quicklace one-pull lacing system.
Running in the trail, we definitely need a shoe that offers great cushioning and dynamics. The forefoot area of the Speedcross 5 has been slightly expanded to give our fingers more freedom as well as to provide more support surface when pulling.
Having hit more miles, the shoe did not fail us once. From tackling the most technical trails, climbing the big rocks, to stepping on specks of dirt and roots, we were amazed to see how the mud did not stick to the outsole, and the mud would just sling off as we kept running.
True enough, the outsole was updated with Chevron lugs that are multi-directional and a deeper cut to allow the shoe to gain traction on loose dirt, soft trail, and mud.
The Speedcross 5 withstands all elements, not forgetting the hard and durable exterior Contragrip rubber that protects our feet along the terrains. It also provides protection against abrasion around the toe with a welded overlay bumper.
Furthermore, we were impressed by the ease of keeping pace whether going uphill or downhill. Despite the filths, we felt light and confident throughout our runs. After taking it out for many kilometers and taking it on all kinds of terrains, from the asphalt to the very muddy areas, we already foresaw using it for the following running sessions.
