Why you should always find helpful ways to strengthen your immune system and fight off unwanted diseases, especially during a time like this.

On the whole, an individual immune system does a remarkable job of defending against disease-causing microorganisms. But sometimes it fails.

So what if there are simple ways to improve your immune system? It is as simple as improving your diet, making a change in your lifestyle, and other science-backed ways to ensure your immune system has everything it needs to function optimally.

Here are 5 ways to improve your immune system;

1. Maintain A Healthy Diet

A healthy diet is a key to a strong immune system. What you put in your body is important, this means making sure you eat plenty of vegetables, fruits, beans, whole grains, proteins, and healthy fats.

It is also important to provide your immune system the energy it needs, a balanced and healthy diet can ensure your body getting a sufficient amount of the micronutrients that maintain your immune system such as;

-Vitamin B6, found in chicken, salmon, banana, green vegetables, and potatoes.
-Vitamin C, found in citrus fruits like oranges and strawberries.
-Vitamin E, found in almonds, sunflower seeds, peanut butter and spinach.

2. Exercise Regularly

Physical activity is an important part of being healthy and supporting a healthy immune system.

It can help boost your overall circulation in your body, making it easier for immune cells and other infection-fighting molecules to travel more easily throughout your body.

Many studies showed that engaging in 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise daily helps to stimulate your immune system.

Thus, it is important to add exercise regularly into your lifestyle and stay active.

3. Hydration

Little did you not know, water plays many important roles in your body, including supporting your immune system. And, just like plants, it needs water to grow and function.

Why is water important? Because a fluid in your circulatory system called lymph, which carries important infection-fighting immune cells around your body is largely made up of water. Thus, being dehydrated slows down the movement of lymph.

To support your immune system, be sure to constantly replace the water you lose throughout the day.

4. Getting Sufficient Sleep

Sleep is certainly not the most active process, but it provides important activities in your body when you’re asleep. For example, infection-fighting molecules are created while you sleep.

Studies have shown that people who don’t get enough quality sleep are more prone to getting sick after exposure to viruses, such as the common cold.

5. Minimize Stress

It is important to understand and reflect on how stress affects your overall health. As stress responses, in turn, suppress your immune system which increases your chance of infection or illness.

Understand that stress is different for everyone, and how we relieve it is too. Importantly, it is to know how to identify stress and practice simple stress-relieving exercises. For example, deep breathing, mediation, or deep stretches.
