With many of our personal and work lives now happening in the comfort of our homes, it is easy to find ourselves succumbing to the comfortable couch or bed. So, how can we stay active at home all day?

Well, fret not! Whether you’re working from home or living your best quarantine life, here are some creative and easy ways to keep yourself up and moving.

Now real talk! How active should you be every day and why? According to health centers, we should get a minimum of 150 minutes of physical activity each week. The reason being, regular physical activity can benefit you in different ways such as improving brain health, maintaining or losing weight, strengthening muscle, and boosting the immune system.

This time around, you don’t have an excuse to not declutter your room or clean up that messy closet.

Many people are familiar with the ritual of spring cleaning. The goal is to tidy and freshen up your living space as the new season rolls in. It is also an act of cleaning which is ultimately a double-duty activity. Not only do you keep your home clean and tidy but it also brings a positive effect on your mental and physical well-being.

Activities such as carrying boxes, scrubbing the walls, vacuuming the living room can be a real workout. Try playing your favorite songs while you sweep and wipe down surfaces, making cleaning extra fun!

2. Chef Up Some Moves In Your Kitchen

Next, as you are in your kitchen cooking up a new recipe that you found online. Try keeping your body active and moving as you gather ingredients. For instance, hold your stretch as you reach for items on higher shelves, do some push-ups on the countertop, or do simple squats as you wait for your water to boil.

To make it extra fun, play your favorite songs to inspire your movement as you cook.

3. Get Moving With A Podcast Or Audiobook

When you’re at home exercising, cleaning, or gardening, try listening to a good podcast or audiobook.

You can easily find it online or on Spotify which has a selection of podcasts.

4. Yoga

Working from home and need a breather from a long day of sitting? Try yoga, it is great for both the mind and your body. It helps relieve stress, anxiety and improve your flexibility and ease your back pain from sitting all day.

5. Gardening

If you’re into planting your greens, now’s the best time to do so. Unleash your inner green thumb and plant a garden. There’s various foods and flowers you can decide to plant.

Gardening takes up a lot of physical effort from bending, stooping, digging, and upkeep. You’re in for a workout as you make your garden grow.
