KL Tower International Towerthon Challenge 2015

The prestigious KL Tower International Towerthon Challenge 2015 was back again, making an early start at 5am. The participants were excited to run the 7th tallest telecommunications tower in the world and the tallest in Southeast Asia.
The race gave an opportunity to the 3,500 participants to test their physical and mental endurance and challenged them to a 2,058-step climb to reach the finish line. The participants ran up the hill for 800 meters, followed by a short run, then the final climb up the tower.
The race is held annually in conjunction with the celebration of “Hari Belia Negara Malaysia”, which is celebrated on the 15th of May every year. “This prestigious event has created a great sports event, which promotes healthy lifestyle and closer ties among participants from Malaysia and overseas,” said Mr, Meor Shahril Anuar Ahmad Rathuan, Chief Executive Officer, KL Tower.
This event continued to receive overwhelming participation from all over the world such as New Zealand, Singapore, Philippines, Australia, France, German, South Korea, Indonesia, Kenya, the USA and Thailand.
All the participants stood a chance to win the overall cash prize worth RM40,000.00. “The Best Timing” for Individual Malaysia Men and Women also won additional cash prizes worth RM2,000.00 each. In the Top Malaysian Men category, Tan Song Hua ranked first with a record time of 00:14:51.99, while the Top Malaysian Women was won by Noor Amelia binti Musa with a record time of 00:16:37.85.
For this year, all the runners got 50% off their ticket prices to go to the KL Tower Open Deck. The event was supported by event partners such as Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL), Ministry of Tourism and Culture (MOTAC), Brooks, Cool Rhino, Red Bull, 100Plus, PowerBar and Running Malaysia, among others.
