If you’re feeling anxious and worried during this time, don’t worry, you’re not alone.
Feeling anxious in certain situations can help us avoid danger, it’s how we’ve evolved to keep ourselves safe and away from harm. For instance, during a pandemic, people who worry are more likely to do things to keep the virus at bay such as frequent hand washing.
Thus, here are some simple but effective things you can do to better manage stress and anxiety during the pandemic.
1.Control What You Can
At this period of time, there are so many things outside of our control, including how long the pandemic lasts, how other people behave, and what’s going to happen in the society. Thus, focus on the things you can control to ease the feeling of anxiety and overwhelm.

For example, practice simple steps to reduce your own personal risk such as staying home as much as possible, avoid non-essential shopping and travels, washing your hands frequently with soap, water, or hand sanitizer when you are outside. Importantly, follow all recommended standard operating procedures (SOP) from the health authorities and government.
Next, it is even more important to stay connected and reach out for support when we need it, as we need to minimize socializing and practice social distance.
Here are some activities to stay connected, which include making it a priority to stay in touch with friends and family if you tend to withdraw when anxious and depressed, think about scheduling regular phone calls or zoom dates. If exercising is your go-to destress activity, try connecting with friends and organize a virtual workout session at the own comfort of your home. It is safer and convenient.

That being said, be mindful of how social media is making you feel, don’t hesitate to mute keywords or people who are triggering your anxiety, avoid letting the pandemic dominate every conversation, and simply enjoy each other’s company.
3. Take Care of Your Body and Spirit
This is the best time to take care of your body and even improve yourself such as practicing self-care to release stress and tension caused by the pandemic.
Here are some stress management strategies you can try. Firstly, be kind to yourself, understand that you are not alone in these struggles. Next, consider maintaining a routine as best you can such as eating healthy meals, proper sleep, work or school schedule, this can help you maintain a sense of normalcy.

Also, take some time out to do activities you enjoy or have been wanting to try. For instance, baking, reading a book, painting, or even trying a new recipe in the kitchen. As long as it takes you out of your worries it is beneficial to lower your anxiety and stress level.
