When the sun goes down, you lace up your shoes and run! There are always two types of runners the one who enjoys the scorching heat of the sun and the one who prefers the cold summer nights. The latter gives runner more convenience, most especially, for those who has daytime commitments. On top of that, night running offers a cooler and less toxic atmosphere.

According to Shawn D. Youngstedt, Ph.D., professor of exercise science at the University of South Carolina, running at night gives better performance benefits to athletes. Because of physiological factors including body temperature and the release of key energy-metabolizing hormones—some runners may find they function better at night.

However, before heading out for a night jog, you need to make sure that you’re properly geared up. Wearing headlamps and reflective gear is important just to ensure that oncoming traffic can see you even from afar. Whenever possible, select a well-lit and predictable route to avoid unwanted accidents.

At an hour when lampposts carve shadows over empty streets and the city fell into sudden stillness, it’s the ideal time to get pumped up with the adrenaline of running. You can pace under the night sky and feel the cool breeze against your skin.
