The 6,000sqft flagship outlet of TRAINE will cater to both athletes and non-athletes in areas such as performance training, recovery and rehabilitation.
Kuala Lumpur, 25 March 2021 — Malaysia is the first country in Southeast Asia to launch
TRAINE, the region’s first-ever human performance institute designed to provide
world-class performance training, recovery and rehabilitation services under one roof.
Conceptualised and co-founded by acclaimed physical recovery and rehabilitation expert, Dr Ko Kangmin from South Korea, TRAINE is an institute that caters to all aspects of moulding an individual to function at their optimum capacity every day–from diet and nutrition to physical training and conditioning, to even physical therapy and recovery.
With over 28 years of experience and a PhD in Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy, Dr Ko Kangmin, or better known as Sam, is an influential figure in the South Korean sports and wellness industry having successfully pioneered new rehabilitation methodologies which helped drive the country to international success in the sports arena.
“I first came to Malaysia during the 2017 SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur, arriving as a
consultant under the invitation of the National Sports Council (MSN). I was involved with
athletes from 11 sports disciplines during the Games and witnessed outstanding success–
helping to contribute a total of 26 Gold medals across basketball, taekwondo, shooting,
archery, weightlifting and gymnastics, for Malaysia.”
“I soon realised that there were no holistic procedures to manage injuries and improve
rehabilitation processes in the local rehab and recovery landscape and this was a similar
case with South Korea in the 1990s,” said Ko.
In selecting Malaysia as home to the first TRAINE institute in the region, Ko said, “Our aim is to develop a dedicated human performance institute that supports and spearheads sports
medicine and physical therapy in Malaysia. Having devoted over 28 years of my life for this
area of practice, I trust that the power of sports science and physical therapy combined can
benefit people to improve their physical wellness, recover from injuries and manage pain
better,” he added.
Female fitness icon and wellness advocate, Nana Al Haleq, is also a big fan of TRAINE
Malaysia’s unique concept and regards the facility to be a game-changer for both athletes
and non-athletes.
“Being an athlete since the age of 10, I have put my body through rigorous training regimes to achieve various fitness goals over the years. The constant pressure on the body and the active lifestyle I live demands a lot of recovery and rehabilitation. With TRAINE being a one-stop institute for human performance, I no longer have to worry about finding a therapist, a trainer or a rehabilitation specialist separately,” said Nana.
“I believe it is important for the public to understand that ‘training hard’ is not just about
how heavy you can lift or how fast you can run – what is more important is to have a healthy body that can move and function better,” she added.
Local partner and co-founder of TRAINE Malaysia, Shahir Khalid, shared that it was a
privilege to be associated with someone of Dr Ko Kangmin’s stature and hopes that the
first-of-its-kind outlet will be well-received among Malaysians.
“We aim to nurture the mindset that physical therapy and performance training apply to
everyone and not just sports athletes. Whether you are a pro athlete with demanding
training requirements or a corporate person who spends most of the day in the office
environment, TRAINE’s philosophy helps you perform better in whatever that you do,” said
Shahir.
